Sunday saw Northern Monkey don our running clobber and take part in Manchester's inaugural Beer 10k. We signed up Ian, from our quality control department, who just so happens to be really good at running to boost our chances of a beer prize! It became apparent from the minute we arrived that this was no social run for those that like a tipple, but a serious event on the British running calendar! The weather didn't disappoint and set us up for a great event!
From the minute we set off I knew that this was going to be a tough 40/50minutes as I watched Ian disappear into the distance. I settled down to 'my' pace and started to enjoy myself, only to take a left turn instead of a right at the half way mark and add an extra 1k to the distance!!! The route was generally well marked throughout and I can only put my desire to go the extra mile down to my own lack of concentration. The rest of the run was ran in anger still aiming to get under 50minutes, finally ending up just shy of 52. Ian also decided to take a detour, so although I was frustrated at my own stupidity, I was semi happy knowing that I'd arrive at the finish line with Ian having come first, holding a fresh pint for me. Unfortunately not.
Big thanks to Steve at Beer Nouveau, one for putting on a fantastic event that we look forward to entering year after year, two for putting 9.2% Salacia on the bar and lastly for being a great host and looking after the missus and the kids whilst we were out getting lost in Manchester. An ace way to spend a Sunday.
